In 1980, half of the world's air conditioning was installed in the United States. According to some estimates, electricity demand for air conditioning could increase 10-fold by 2050. In 2010, 50 million air conditioning units were sold in China alone. The existence of air conditioning has also had a huge impact on so many things, including architecture and human behavior.
