Atma kyati is the theory of error propounded by Buddhist yoga-chara vigyanavada. This is enough for a person training philosophy to sort of understand what that theory must be. But then you require, not a PhD, but at least a graduate degree in philosophy to grasp just from this. It's interesting how training helps you.
