Jamie Driscoll became the first mayor for an area called North of Tine which essentially covers Newcastle and its northern surrounds. In power Driscoll proved really quite effective operator, successfully leading efforts to expand his Meryl T region. But then when labor began the process of choosing its candidate for this new regional Meryl T the party blocked Driscoll from standing.
