The Differences Between Freshwater and Saltwater in Lungs
If your surfactant isn't working, then the Alveolus can't open or close and so you're not breathing because that's really where the rubber meets the road when you breathe. freshwater bears a pretty strong resemblance to the water in your body and specifically in your blood. When that water enters your lungs, it actually passes very easily from your lungs into your bloodstream. And so what happens is the dilution, the concentration of water in your blood becomes overrun with water.
