Is Lifetime Alimony Crucial for Your Basic Survival?
Alimony for life is still a thing in florida and in a handful of other states. But generally speaking, it's on its way out. Alimony will likely keep getting shorter in duration and lesser in amount. We've talked to people whose payments mean they can never retire. And payers argue it creates a disincentive for their exes to ever get remarried because if they did, they could get less or no alimony at all. There are reports of payers fleeing the state to avoid getting arrested for outstanding balances.
