The Denial of Self
LZ Granderson: I've often thought that people actually lose their sense of self all the time much more often than we give them credit for. He says when they get diverted into anything, whether it's by a thought or by a use of attention, they get fixated on something. LZ: It's only retrospectively that when they come back to themselves, that they feel that they have a self that has been carried through in each of those moments. The beauty of this mind wandering research is that it shows how this mental level of self would actually represent an blinkational discontinuous activity. Every normal person can see this if you're sitting on a bus and just watch your thoughts
