The Intermediate Step in the Process of Healing the Emotions
I propose that contemplating or resting our attention on a higher truth is an intermediate step in the process of healing the emotions. For Thomas wisdom doesn't mean knowing all things or even knowing the greatest things. In the ordinary course of life, moments of rest are intermittent because our attention is only intermittently fixed on any one thing. The dynamism of the emotions reflects this in their own way. All of the emotions Thomas says resolve ultimately into either sorrow or joy.
