Birds Without the Syrynx
Birds from earlier times may have sounded more like modern reptiles than modern birds. The syrynx, that unique und making organ in the chests of living birds, appears in the fossil record only about 68 million years ago. Luckily for the sound scapes ofor present world, the birds that possessed the syrynx were among those that made it through the calamity of an asteroid impact 66million years ago.
