histamine is a chemical compound that your cells use to signal other cells when they are damaged or stressed. And so what histamine ends up doing in the body is it produces all of our symptoms fairly up. It will drive mucus production, which is why we get congested and runny nose and eyes. But also can constrict your muscles around your lungs during an asthma attack. As your blood vessels dilate, it just makes it harder to get blood to your heart.
