The Anti-Defection Law of 1985

The anti-defection law of 1985 was the first in India to recognize political parties as an entity. The Ten Sheed said that party leadership can disqualify their MPs or MLAs if they defy whip on any specific bill. There was a escape clause too, which said that if more than one-third people in the party in the legislator wanted to change side, they could. But individually, they could not. Now it has been raised to two-thirds. That if two-thirds wanted to change, take the whole party, but not individually.
