The History of Juneteenth in the United States
This past October in Conroe, Texas just north of Houston a new elementary school was opened. It's called a net Gordon Reed Elementary School. It is named for a little first grade girl who in 1964 became the first black child to integrate the still segregated schools of Conroe,Texas. The Confederate Army lost the Civil War surrendered at Appomattox in April of 1965. Juneteenth has been a African-American community celebration in the United States for generations since.
