A property that once stood at the corner of 8th and Harding Avenue is said to be responsible for two kaimuki-based stories. One story has it that a man who lived there killed his wife and children in 1942 before burying them in the backyard. The other, according to some sources, was actually the mother-in-law of the woman whose children were allegedly attacked there - she had been buried there as well. With the neighborhood being made up largely of immigrants from Japan, the term yokai was soon associated with the house.
