The Beginnings of Computer Programming
In the early 19 fifties, gray started working on the first compiler which converted english language commands into a language that the machine could understand. Grace was able to keep working on the mark one anto under a short term research fellow contract at harvard. She thought there should be one universal programming language that all computers and all the people who programmed them could use. By the 19 seventies, cobal, the language that she helped pioneer, became the most widely used programming language in the world.
