I think the honest criticism comes from true believers, people who really believe that they have valid evidence for the truth of one or another religious doctrine. I don't consider claims of this sort dishonest. These some of them are confused. Some of them are using experience in a way to make claims about the cosmos that i think are illegitimate. The dishonesty here is just in his unwillingness to acknowledge the patently emotional basis for his views. He wants certain propositions to be true because of the way these truths make him feel.
