The Lindesfan Gospels

The lindesfan gospels are the most ornate gospel book of all time. It's estimated that it took about ten years to make, using vellum and calf skin. The art is probably the most frequently discussed part of the book. This is partly due to the unique style of lindispan - a fusion of irish and anglo saxon influences. A lot of people say it looks an awful like celtic art, as already mentioned. But upon closer inspection, we find that our initial impression was wrong, and it is, in fact, an animal.
