Communicating in front of others can be very risky in terms of your status. When you feel under threat and that's what speaking in high-stakes situations is experienced as internally by your body, it's a threat. A great way to manage this source of anxiety is get them focused on something else so they're not focused on you. If you hold something cold in the palms of your hands before you speak in a high-stakes situation, you actually reduce your core body temperature.
