The Age of the Sutra

Para Rayana's insistence that Brahma is the material cause of all things brings him into direct conflict with the Samkhya school. The so-called Orthodox Hindu schools, in fact entered into heated disputes with one another. Para Rayana sees the world as evolving naturally from an underlying material stuff called Pradana. Though Samkhya too positions itself within Brahmanical tradition, on this score it would seem to be diametrically opposed to Vedanta.
