The League of Nations: A Paternalistic Protective Regime
The League of Nations in its famous article 22 has this kind of paternalist impetus built into it. It says that these peoples who live in these territories should be developed to as part of what they call a sacred trust. But at the same time, while the standard of living should be raised, these are peoples who aren't on table to stand up to the standard of the article 22. So there's this mixture which has such a long history and development thinking right up to this day. And that's very much the politics of Malanowski and his students.
