The Problem With Polymer Money in the United States

I was wondering if they went polymer because the thing that has struck me in the UK is when they announce a new one, how short a time you've got to get rid of your paper once. And if they did that in America, the whole country would be dug up by mobsters with all their notes, wrapped in plastic buried in backyards. So my understanding is after a certain point, you have to go through a different process. Like you can't just bring it into a bank, I think you need to bring it to like a specialty place, but it will still be accepted. But nonetheless, I could see it being a very, very long time before America goes to polymer
