If you're dealing with a kind of military battle, you don't really want to abandon your positions until the entire war is won. And i think that was how he would analogize politics to this. The problem with this is that in politics, conservatives vote or they participate,. They act, they contribute. So conservatives are doing things, not because they want power in their own ends, but because they want to do conservative things. You might not actually deliver for conservatives at the very end. There are all these other problems with with essentially this kind of biding
