The skin or the integument is actually made up of a multitude of layers. You've got your epidermis, which is all epithelia. And then you've got your dermis, which is going to be connected to tissue and blood nervous tissue. So for example, if you were to take those five layers of the epidermis - Stratum basil, spinoesum, lucidum, granulosum -- there's stratum corian as well. Then lusium. Is that right? There's stratum lucidum. Lucidum. But they're only really, that laser only really on the palm of your hands. They're see-through
One of the four tissue types of the body, epithelia lines and protects our organs from the external and internal environment. In this episode, Dr Matt & Dr Mike explain how the different shape and layers of epithelia tell you what function it performs (form = functions) and highlight examples in the body where you can find each type. They also explore cancer, metaplasia, dysplasia, and Dr Matt's mums skin cancer diagnosis and surgery.
