The Rise of the Common Reader
Thomas Hardy is a writer that without fail will stoke my love for the great outdoors and reading his novels just lights something inside. The language of a late 19th century novel is so accessible really does speak to the rise of the common reader there was an explosion in literacy with the lending library, railway book stands we get penny dreadfuls don't we we see that reflected in how the stories are being told now as we've just spoken about Elliot. Thomas Hardy seems to be a blend of georgelia and Percy Bice Shelley he's one of her literary progeny.
