The Confusion Around Skills and Strategies
There's so much confusion around the terms, skills and strategies, likely because they seem to be used interchangeably. One view is it's OK as long as people teach well and students learn. But might there be a benefit to clarifying what a strategy is and what a skill is? It evolved into this idea that when we talk about skillful reading, we often talk about readers who are using strategies that have been so practiced and mastered that they become automatic.
