Use a scale like you said take some pictures of yourself and then use the mirror see how your clothes are fitting. Odds are if your weight's staying the same or decreasing slightly but your overall physical appearance now this is obviously anecdotal but it's not scientific. The last data I read on this said that the average American has sufficient body fat to walk from New York to Miami without consuming any additional calories. So we're already carrying a lot more than we need.
