Seasonal Flooding in the Shingu River
Seasonal flooding is a big part of the ecosystem in this area. The Belomante Dam on the Shingu River diverts 80% of the water from the region where the Jouruna people live. Many species of fishes and turtles depend on this forest to be flooded to go there and breed, to find a food. Several fish like the Paku are vegetarian so they eat fruits that fall from the trees in the water when it floods.
