The Importance of Rest in the New Age
The Sabbath is not simply a set of Jewish rules about how you must stop work for a day and sit there feeling bored, etc. The Sabbath is the moment when God's eventual future arrives fleetingly and mysteriously in the present. When Jesus does things on Sabbath, which they didn't expect, that goes with what he said when he said, 'the time is fulfilled' So Jesus embodies those two great Jewish symbols, which are eschatological symbols - pointing forward to God's promised future.
