James and James's Relationships in the Black Jacobins

Eric williams left trinidad in 19 32 to study history at oxford. His doctoral thesis the economic aspect of the abolition of the west indian slave trade and slavery was the basis for his book, capitalism and slavery. James once admitted that there are certain pages in the black jacobins where most of the material and all the footnotes are things that williams gave to me. He claimed also to have provided williams with ha thesis of capitalism and slaves. The two scholars would eventually lose much of the respect they had once had for each other.
