Are Industrial Relations Getting Worse?
I suspect that if we hadn't seen inflation spike as it did because of Putin's war in Ukraine, the energy prices, and therefore the inflation that's followed it, I don't suppose we would have this industrial reaction. The impact on people's lives and livelihoods through high inflation is having a bigger impact than before. We massively appreciate the work by public sector workers - but private sector does not. In the private sector, we're not seeing settlements of the sort of 19%, which is one of the pay requests. And for us to accept an independent process to come to a figure in each of these different sectors means that we're expecting the taxpayer to stump up more money than the independent
