I feel like if you expand people's ability to be compassionate, you also expand their ability to do great evil at the same time. It's a profound kind of paradox that when you raise that level of agency, they can choose to do terrible stuff. We already know what it's like to make high-level intelligences that we have zero control over. And they're going to change our world and do things to each other, good or bad and whatnot. That already exists.
