The second work that i really think is important to animating shabes is, of course, rabbi abraham joshua heshel's the sabbath. In many circles, particularly in the orthodox community, his works are avoided. They are avoided because of his institutional affiliations and the fact that he was affiliated, and continues to be affiliated, with the conservative movement.
