I think there's a kind of interesting cultural comparison you can make here. I think that you can contrast a kind of American optimism with a British anxiety slash pessimism in the late 19th century and early 20th century. There is actually a ton of anxiety about the next war and a lot of anxiety about airship scares. But while the British are pessimistic and anxious at this moment in history, Americans are enraptured more or less.
