What's Happening in the Basin?

We track the sismic velocity. And we know that it depends on some properties of the rocks. We don't exactly know what's changing actually, but we do have some indications. For example, in some locations, a rainfall will decrease the sysmic velocity. But for the subsidence, it's plausible that this compaction reduces the velocity. It ist effectivelythe, you know, how hard or how dense or how squishy those sediments are.
