The idea that we would look at people and somehow justify ourselves in the eyes of god because we're not like them, is abhorrent to everything that jesus ministry was about. It's the person who knows that they have no leg to stand on, but god's kindness forbearance and patience, that judges themselves first before judging others,. That actually learns to appreciate the grace of god that's given. This isn't you turning from sin to all these virtues, all these good things. Its turning from the kindness of god. The fact that god is kind is meant to bring you into some greater hyper morality - it brings you to christ.
