Cassius Clay was the undisputed Golden Gloves champion at amateur boxing. His work ethic did not extend to his studies, however. The problem was that he spent all his time in the gym and really almost didn't go to school. When it came time for graduation, his teachers were so upset at his quote unquote, not attendance they didn't want to give him a certificate.
