The Impact of Metaphysics on Science

I wonder if there's one single discovery or theory in the whole history of metaphysics that you think encapsulates what can be achieved with it. For example, distinction between primary and secondary qualities which had a huge impact on science. The notion of cause is pervasive throughout many different subjects. And so we might hope that the general study of these concepts could actually be of real benefit to these other disciplines.
