When i teach composition, we oil composition down to a few things. The three major things for all creativity is, how is one thing like another? Comparisons give insight. How are they divided into contrasting pairs? And then the third thing is, do i like this? Am i enjoying this? A student, about 20 years ago, who took the composition class, who lived in san diego, said, i'd like to spend a day at the getty with you, and we'll just go through the composition.
