The Importance of Breaking Down Tasks

When I was a teacher, I would give my kids a very simple task. Did your presentation to me by Thursday? Did your research paper do me by Friday? It wasn't until I figured out how to break down that task into very small magical pieces we saw growth in these skills. Our brains are just constructed differently. We have lower than typical amounts of dopamine in our prefrontal cortex. The funny students who struggle with executive function skills are not successful in life. They can be developed but it takes a lot of practice and hard work.
