How to Write a Detective Story

In your short story called alternative realities are true, there's a line that says all dead ines are an illusion designed to bring motion to a halt. To those who can see beyond the illusion, dead ends are portals into unknown possibilities. That was one of my favorite lines in the book. But i'm wondering if you can talk a little bit more about the line and then and then the story, sort of your inspiration and the process of writing it.
