In the u. K, there are statutory public holidays and bank holidays. Not every festival is a holiday - sometimes they even land on the same day. Bank holidays usually happen on a monday so it's always part of a long week end. These bank holidays are usually associated with some old religious occasion or some other important reason connected to the state in some way.
