The escape artist is a serial escapologist. There are escapes, both before he gets to aushwitz and later in his life. He arrives on the last day of june 19 forty two; he's just 17. Then after, by the way, he's made several attempts to evade nancy capture. And through a series of acts of kind of random good fortune and luck, where there, where their people are being picked out, some of whom will meet a hehorific end, he somehow evades that time and time again. During the Second World War, Rudolph Vrba was one of the very few people to escape the horrors of the Auschwitz concentration camp. He did so along with fellow escapee, Alfred Wetzler, in April 1944. Vrba is the subject of columnist and author Jonathan Freedland's new book, The Escape Artist. He joins journalist and broadcaster Manveen Rana to discuss Vrba's incredible story.
