The Rasmussen's Got a Media Empire
ESPN was founded in 1979 by Bill Rasmussen and Scott Rasmensen. The network is now one of the most popular sports channels on cable television. ESPN launched September 7th, 1979 with a live broadcast from New York City's Madison Square Garden. It became known as ESPN before it changed its name after Getty bought an 85% controlling interest to be more like a venture capitalist.
