In the modern parlance of a romantic comedy, you would see this and read this as a modern reader. Pip spends all his days pining over Estella. He's actually actively dismissive of Bitty because Bitty is... Yeah, right. And then when he has that clueless moment where he says like, I'm in love with Josh, it was Bitty all along.
