The Risk of Metric Fixation

The risk of metric fixation. So many organisations people that just talked on dashboards and they want metrics metrics, I get it. The problem is that it's easy, it's easier to get data on downstream reactive stuff. It's harder to get good metrics on upstream preventative stuff,. And so what happens is that when, you know, leadership says "I need numbers" You're actually incentivising downstream activities because they're just easier, faster and cheaper to not cheaper in the long run, but easier and faster to provide data for. Until we have that big data, I think pushing for people to provide the data is actually going to unfortunately push activities and focus downstream, not upstream.
