Is There Something Inherently Bad About Stress?
The reason we have a stressor response is it's highly adapted. If you had no stress response, you'd be in big trouble. Cortisol can kill off specific populations of cells in another brain region known as the hippocampus. You're pumping out cortisol, too much cortisol, killing off those brain cells that normally shut down the hypothalamic neurons.
