The Intimacy of Love

We would never know that anyone loved us unless he told us so. So the first intimacy of all love is we must hear him. It is not enough just merely to hear the voice of the beloved. We want to see words born on human lips. And so if God is really to love us, he must not only be heard, he must be seen.
