Guy Fawkes
In the 18th century, Guy Fawkes started to become synonymous with bonfire. Children would wheel around their Guy Fawkes's asking for money. Eventually, the effigies came to be of other hate figures as well. The town of Lewis in East Sussex keeps up the tradition each year at its particularly enthusiastic bonfire night events.
