Stikovsky's Bach, Stikata, and Fugen D Minor
In You You In the fugue, Elgar really pulls out all the stops, no pun intended. He brings in percussion instruments and also adds flourishes of accompaniment with instruments like the trumpets and trombones that lend sometimes an almost comical element to the proceedings. But this is all about style. Performances of Bach and other Baroque music are now done with much less vibrato, faster tempeh, less freedom, and a generally more lean sound. Most orchestras won't touch Bach unless they radically reduce the sizes of their string sections.
