The Connection Between String Theory and Quantum Gravity

Quantum mechanics describes forces as an exchange of a particle called a boson. This means that there's no action at a distance happening when particles are interacting with each other, even if those particles are separated a bit in space. That also makes string theory effectively untestable with our current technology. But it turns out the potential connection with quantum gravity is compelling for other reasons too.
