The Difference Between a Federal Judge and a Magistrate Judge

The distinction is between a magistrate judge and a federal district court judge. Magistrate judges are not selected by the president, do not have to be confirmed by the senate. The affidavit is signed by a federal law enforcement officer or agent. And so there's no expectation of further privacy on the part of the government with respect to the search warrant.
