The History of Rabbinic Hermeneutics

The medieval esoteric movement of Kabbalah is in no way seen within Judaism as something outside of the primary revelation. The art of rabbinic reading, rereading and creative misreading will be a huge factor in the development of esoteric hermeneutics down the ages. With Hekhelot mysticism, we are in full-blown Western esotericism centuries before the coming of the Kabbalahs. We shall be returning to all of these currents in the course of the podcast, of course.
